YMCA Bridgwater – Gerald Townsend House

Conceived and delivered within one year this project showcases the company’s ability to manage the design and construction of a complex block of residential units. The building replaces and extends a 1970’s block that no longer offered the standard of accommodation expected by residents. The superstructure was demolished, with the resulting rubble being used for roads and parking areas. The original foundations were re-used and the ground floor raised above predicted flood levels.

Above this level a timber frame structure was raised with cedar cladding and rendered elevations.

Sherborne International College, Boarding Accommodation

Working to a demanding programme the company has just completed this three-storey boarding house for Dorset based Sherborne International College. The client’s requirement was that the building be finished by Christmas 2010 and other contractors were unwilling to take up the challenge, however Pollard rose to the occasion and the keys were duly handed over on the agreed date. The building, designed by Boon Brown Architects from Yeovil, features a number of energy saving measures including solar water heating, heating powered by ground source energy and grey water recycling for toilet flushing.

Music Block, Beechen Cliff School, Bath

Handed over on programme for the beginning of the 2011/12 academic year, this £1.1m project comprised the construction of a three-storey building to provide a specialist music block, built within the grounds of the operational school.  The external design featured cedar clad elevations and curved profile roof.

Community and Children’s Centre, Stowford Rise, Sidmouth

The construction of two linked buildings comprising a single-storey structure with glulam portal timber frame for the Community Hall and load bearing timber frame walls to the Children’s Centre.

Completed on programme in 41 weeks, this £0.85m project will provide a much needed community facility and was received with great acclaim by the Client.
